The
general director of Tourism of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Cristina Lagé, has opened the Sabor Salou gastronomic fair praising Salou's commitment to gastronomy, since it is a "
success as a way of prestige and tourist attraction". Lagé also stressed that “
tourism in Catalonia enjoys very good health and our gastronomic offer positions us as international benchmarks”.
In this context, he announced that
chef Pep Moreno, from the Deliranto restaurant in Salou, awarded a
Michelin star, will be in charge of
representing Catalonia as the World Region of Gastronomy in the official presentation ceremony that will take place in Vigo the first week of July.
The
mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, in the same line as the general director, has remarked that "
gastronomy is a strategic asset for the deseasonalization and consolidation of sustainable and quality tourism throughout the year".
Before cutting the opening tape and touring the 57 stands of Sabor Salou together with the mayor, Cristina Lagé has signed the Honorary Book of the municipality at the headquarters of the Municipal Tourism Board, where it has been received by Pere Granados and the
Councilor for Economic Dynamization, Hèctor Maiquez.
Sabor Salou is the most popular outdoor
gastronomic fair in the country, which
offers tastings, culinary demonstrations or show cooking and free cooking workshops for all audiences, and specific for children. The fair opens
until Sunday, May 25 from 12 to 24 hours, and includes entertainment, music and a complete and varied gastronomic offer on
Passeig Jaume I in Salou, the tourist center par excellence of the capital of the Costa Dorada.
