Secure trade for Christmas

Salou. Costa Dorada. 07 December 2025. Christmas is a time of great commercial activity and Salou does not escape this situation, especially with the forecast that school holidays mean an increase in the number of visitors, especially families. That is why, as every year, the City of Salou strengthens its support for local commerce with a campaign to improve safety.

The Local Police tour the shops of the capital of the Costa Dorada, and especially the main commercial axes, to inform and sensitize merchants about the measures to be applied in their establishments to improve their safety and that of their customers.

Some of these recommendations on safety for shops are:

• the installation of correctly signposted video surveillance cameras
• do not accumulate cash in the establishment
• do not leave articles in areas without visibility
• not to intervene directly in risk situations 
• immediately notify the security forces of any suspicion

At the same time, these days the surveillance is intensified in the main commercial axes of the municipality -such as Barcelona street and Via Roma-, with local patrols of both the Local Police and the Mossos d'Esquadra, which will directly attend to the needs of the commercial sector.

In the presentation of the campaign, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, and the councilors of Security and Economic Dynamization, Sebastià Domínguez and Hèctor Maiquez, respectively, visited several establishments in the municipality accompanied by the chief inspector of the Local Police, as well as by municipal agents and the Mossos d'Esquadra. The mayor recalled that the objective of the campaign is to give security and that "the shops feel accompanied".

Salou one of the safest municipalities 

Recently, the Ministry of the Interior has reported criminality data by municipalities during the first nine months of 2025 and Salou is the second municipality with more than 20,000 safer inhabitants in the province of Tarragona, with a reduction in criminality of 20.8% compared to 2024. In Salou it is especially remarkable the decrease of thefts with force in a home, which recede 39.3%; there is also 16% less theft and 45.2% less theft of vehicles. Crimes against sexual freedom, in this case, fall by 3.2%.
