The municipality of Salou has kicked off the Festa Major del 30 d'Octubre, one of the most emblematic dates on its calendar, which this year marks the 37th anniversary of its administrative independence. From October 19 to November 7, the town will host around thirty activities intertwining popular culture, music, sports, and historical tribute, inviting citizens to celebrate and reaffirm their collective identity.
The event marking the start of the institutional program will take place this Monday, October 26, at 8:00 PM in the City Hall's Plenary Room. The official pregó (opening speech) will be given by Maria Teresa Villagrán, president and cap de colla of the Associació Cultural Gegants de Salou. Her appointment represents a recognition of the local associative network's efforts and of all the people dedicated to keeping the municipality's traditions alive to pass them on to new generations.
October 30th: The epicenter of the celebration
Friday, October 30, will concentrate the festival's most symbolic and highly attended events. The day will begin at 9:00 AM in the Els Emprius area with the planting of the commemorative tree, a historical gesture that links the city's growth with its future. Throughout the morning, the Passeig Jaume I will host a popular breakfast (at 10:30 AM) and the colorful parade of the Seguici Festiu (at 11:30 AM), which will wind through the streets before culminating at the Santa Maria del Mar church.
The main day's program will be completed with a floral offering, a popular paella at the Salou Centre Municipal Sports Pavilion, and the traditional firing of rockets at 3:00 PM in the Plaça de la Segregació. The night will close with a dance enlivened by the Ruben's orchestra, followed by the commemorative dinner and the final firecracker display organized by the Associació d'Amics 30 d'Octubre.
Activities for everyone
The festive agenda, which this year also celebrates the town's twinning with Monzón, is complemented by initiatives for all ages. On Wednesday, October 28, the Teatre Auditori will host the 24th October 30th Awards for Child and Youth Creativity. These days will also be plenty of children's shows, workshops, and performances by gegants and bastoners.
The cultural offer will extend until early November to bring the festival to a close. On Friday, November 6, the Torre Vella will inaugurate the exhibition "A renewed look at the universe of Leonardo da Vinci." The following day, Saturday, November 7, the Teatre Auditori will bring down the curtain with the Impro Show Horror performance.
Historical memory and citizen legacy
Beyond the recreational aspect, the Festa Major serves to remember the milestone achieved on October 30, 1989, when a Supreme Court ruling ratified Salou's segregation from the municipality of Vila-seca following intense citizen mobilization. In this context, an event of great heritage value will take place on Thursday, October 29: the donation to the municipality of the notarized testimony of the signatures from the segregation file.
Salou commemorates this anniversary with a celebration that intertwines a space for coexistence, tradition, and memory, with the people of Salou as the protagonists.
