Salou officially launched the 2026 edition of the Nits Daurades on Saturday, 1 August 2026, with the institutional opening ceremony held in the gardens of Xalet Torremar. The opening address, delivered by the Director General for Tourism of the Government of Catalonia, Cristina Lagé, marked the beginning of fifteen days of cultural events, music, traditions and activities for all ages, running until 15 August.
Before the opening ceremony, Cristina Lagé signed the Town Hall's Book of Honour and met with the Mayor of Salou and President of the Municipal Tourism Board, Pere Granados, to discuss the evolution of the tourism sector and the new challenges facing tourist destinations.
During his speech, Pere Granados highlighted that the Nits Daurades are an opportunity to strengthen the bonds within the community while showcasing the very best of Salou to the thousands of visitors choosing the destination during these summer days. He also stressed that the festival programme highlights local talent, the work of community organisations and the city's rich cultural heritage, while inviting both residents and visitors to enjoy the celebrations and discover Salou's beaches, gastronomy and local commerce.
Granados also reaffirmed Salou's commitment to a sustainable, innovative and high-quality tourism model, helping to further consolidate the town as one of Catalonia's and the Mediterranean's leading tourist destinations.
Cristina Lagé thanked the city for the recognition she received and said she feels "like one more resident of Salou", highlighting the town's ability to welcome people from everywhere and make them feel at home. In her speech, she underlined the importance of tourism as a strategic sector for Catalonia, not only because of its economic impact, but also for its role in promoting the country's culture, language, history and traditions.
Lagé also congratulated Salou on the transformation it has undergone in recent years and on its strong commitment to sustainability, professionalism and tourism quality. According to her, these values have established Salou as one of Catalonia's leading destinations and an internationally recognised tourism reference.
As part of the ceremony, Mayor Pere Granados and Councillor for Culture and Festivals Júlia Gómez named Cristina Lagé a new Ambassador of Salou. The distinction included a replica of the seal of King Jaume I, a commemorative plaque and the city's institutional pin.
Finally, with the lighting of the traditional firecracker display, Salou officially kicked off the 2026 Nits Daurades, launching fifteen days of music, culture, traditions, performances, family activities and events for all ages that will make the city the heart of the celebrations until 15 August.
