The Rainbow Colors Fill the Proud of Salou - Diversity Festival

Proud of Salou- Festa de la Diversitat

Salou. Costa Dorada. 28 June 2026. The colors of the rainbow have once again become highly visible in Salou on the occasion of LGBTQ Pride Day. "The Proud of Salou - Festa de la Diversitat" (Diversity Festival) filled the Plaça de les Comunitats Autònomes with the reading of the manifesto, a show filled with humor, advocacy, and music.

The festival kicked off around 9 PM at the Font dels Cargols, the starting point for the rainbow flag. The flag was carried on horseback by rider Luis Sanahuja, who was accompanied by the Giants of Salou ("Gegants de Salou"), the drumming group "Salou Destroy Silence", and stilt walkers from "Fantasia Animación".

Once at the square, Sanahuja approached the stage on horseback and handed the rainbow flag over to the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, who placed it on the stage where the rest of the celebration took place.

MANIFESTO FOR LGBTI RIGHTS

First, the commemorative Manifesto was read by representatives from various local organizations: Oriol Margalef from "Gegants de Salou"; Kristel Maset from "Salou Destroy Silence"; Jorge Vela from the "Associació Diversity Salou"; and Aleix Nadal and Sandra Garcia from the "Associació Projectes Creatius Panda".

The Manifesto declared that "LGTBQ+ rights are Human Rights" and therefore "are not up for debate. They are defended" while calling for the protection of achieved rights against any attempts at rollback.

SALOU: A WELCOMING, OPEN, AND PLURAL CITY

For his part, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, reiterated "Salou's commitment to Human Rights and equal opportunities for everyone," and reminded that the Town Hall will continue to promote policies for the respect and equality of all people.

The mayor emphasized that "Salou is and will continue to be an open, welcoming, plural, and diverse city," where everyone can live and love without fear and in freedom.

The "Proud of Salou" event continued with a performance by Tarragona comedian Josep Ferré. Through his impressions of various female celebrities—such as Tamara Falcó, María Teresa Campos, and Sara Montiel—he also championed LGBTI+ rights.

The festival, which maintained a strong family-friendly atmosphere, concluded with a music set by DJ Grey.

SALOU IS FILLED WITH THE COLORS OF THE RAINBOW

In addition to the "Proud of Salou - Festa de la Diversitat", Salou Town Hall has painted benches, pedestrian crossings, and other public spaces with the rainbow colors as a symbol of coexistence, respect for diversity, and rejection of anti LGBTQ+ hate.
