L'alcalde de Salou signa a Madrid el seu suport a la "Red de Destinos Turísticos Inteligentes"

Moment when Pere Granados stamps his signature on the Ministry.



Salou. Costa Dorada. 12 October 2018. Pere Granados, mayor of Salou, has signed a declaration of intentions of the Smart Tourist Destinations Network at the Ministry of Industry and Tourism. In this activity, which aims to improve the position in the classification of tourist destinations worldwide, have joined 60 other administrations between municipalities, provincial and regional administrations.

The objective of this project is to improve the positioning of Spain as a global tourist destination, seeking new mechanisms to promote innovation in destinations, with the development and development of ICT, so that differentiated and highly competitive services can be created .

According to Mayor Granados, "this network will be very interesting for Salou because it means reinforcing a strategic line for the intelligent and efficient management of tourism resources based on the use of new technologies and digitalization."

The mayor added that "it is very important for Salou because by being part of this network there is access to investments through Red.es."

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, and the Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel Oliver.

It is necessary to remember that Salou obtained a subsidy, granted by the Ministry of Economy and Enterprise, of 2,059,050 euros, destined to carry out the Salou Smart Tourist initiative presented to the call of the National Plan of Intelligent Territories of the digital agenda for Spain , and that has been selected by the ministry.

The "Salou Smart Tourist" initiative incorporates a total of 12 components distributed in 4 areas of action: Tourism Intelligence, Visitor Data, Visitor Accompaniment and Sustainability and Energy Efficiency.

The project, which will have a planned execution of 2 years, will allow incorporating elements in the city, mainly of a technological nature, allowing a qualitative leap in the services that Salou offers its visitors and citizens, fully addressing its transformation towards a Smart City, towards a Smart Destination.

Substantial increase in the number of charging points for electric vehicles, increase in the number of tourist webcams on the beaches, deployment of a sensor network to better understand the mobility of visitors and adapt service offers, generation of digital content, enhancing the Defined cultural routes (Salou 1900, Architecture of the 60, Villa Romana de Barenys, Iberian Village La Cella, Camino de Ronda, ...), a new mobile application specific to tourist services, are some of the components that make up the Salou Smart Tourist project.

No aspects of sustainability and energy efficiency are neglected, such as the monitored management of a set of landscaped areas and the remote management of the LED luminaires that will be installed on the seafront of Paseo Jaime I.

In the words of Mayor Pere Granados, "the objective is to turn Salou into an innovative tourist destination, consolidated on a cutting-edge technological infrastructure, which guarantees the sustainable development of the tourist territory, accessible to all, which facilitates the interaction and integration of the visitor with the environment and increase the quality of their experience in the destination and improve the quality of life of the resident ".

The project, presented from the area of ​​New Technologies of the City Council, and with the collaboration of the Tourist Board, is one of the only two projects, together with Lloret de Mar, subsidized in Catalonia, where the ministry will allocate 6 million euros, of a total of 60 million at the state level.

In Salou, the budget for the project was 2,941,500 euros, of which the ministry subsidizes 70% (2,059,050 euros) and the rest is borne by the municipal budgets. This subsidy comes from the Ministry of Economy and Business through the public company Red.es and with the financing of the FEDER funds of the European Union.
