Tarragona. Costa Dorada. This year there are some of the most important anniversaries in the history of Catalonia, as the bicentenary of Jaume Balmes or centenaries of the Tragic Week, Joan Maragall's death or the birth of Vicens Vives. They laid the foundations of a culture and society that even today we have inherited, and became the cultural activists of the quintessential contemporary Catalan. The Humanities Program Obra Social "la Caixa" decided to recoup some of these figures and examine the role they played for the Catalan society in the cycle of conferences Biographies. Thinkers Catalans, Tarragona host CaixaForum 20 January to 10 February 2010. From the protest against the Spanish government demands to the idea of "pactism Catalan", the transition to liberalism Jaume Balmes or Iberian theories of Joan Maragall, the cycle was whether the image of Catalonia created these characters then still is valid in the current complex and confusing time. To find out, the Obra Social "la Caixa" invites prominent historians, academics and writers on this trip by the Catalan cultural and social history.
