The Rei en Jaume Regatta reaches its 40th edition

Salou will host the start of the 40th Rei en Jaume Regatta this Friday, 11 September, one of the Mediterranean’s leading offshore sailing races. This year, 20 boats will take part in a course of more than 100 nautical miles to Mallorca.

The race will start off the entrance to Salou harbour, following the skippers’ briefing and sailors’ dinner, which will take place on Thursday at the Club Nàutic.

This edition will be particularly significant, as the competition will surpass 500 participating boats accumulated over its four decades of history.

The regatta commemorates the voyage undertaken by King James I in 1229 from Salou to Mallorca and keeps the historic ties between Catalonia and the Balearic Islands alive. The events will conclude on Saturday, 12 September, with the closing dinner and trophy presentation in the Balearic Islands.
