The Castles of Gaià

Barberà de la Conca
The Castles of Gaià

Route of the Castles of Gaia invites you to discover old buildings almost millennial through the natural border meant that the river in Gaia time the Marca Hispanica. Castles and towers in various states of preservation remain hidden resisting the traveler over the years and constantly remembering the past of these lands. It is a reunion with the medieval period and the nature of the region on horseback in the Conca de Barbera, Upper Camp and Lower Camp. The route starts at Biure of Gaia, at the foot of his manor castle, which rises at the end of the route. To get from Montblanc Biure taking the C-241d in NE to Santa Coloma de Queralt to break right after the TV-2014. Another alternative is making a point of departure and arrival Pontils where you come from ceremonies and Armentera Bridge, visiting castles and the passing of Carol and inexcusable Santa Perpetua de Gaia. Since the width parking Cross Biure (627 m) should be directed south to the hermitage of San Miguel and the castle ruins of Montclar (4.56 km, 938 m, 1 h 15 min) a series of clues fully signposted. Before you see them crowned the summit of Montclar (948 m), located a few meters south of the castle. The most common route of ascent to the castle from Montclar Pontils is San Miguel and once in the neck which culminates Clot, now under Montclar climb to the summit along a road heading north. This route is now down. First down the east side of Montclar south to the neck which closes the Clot de San Miguel (5.51 km, 774 m), and then everything becomes Clot north-east to the torrent Biure ( 8.75 km, 566 m). The descent of the ridge Montclar northeast leaving the hermitage is not recommended (Relliscall Horse), first on the cliff to follow a good time right, and then by the dense vegetation. Once at Torrent Biure also continues north back to the house of Tous and neck where the track goes from asphalt to Pontils Biure (9.19 km, 605 m), which will become later. But instead of following the tarmac, turn right along the ridge heading east to climb Castellote (9.64 km, 645 m, 2 h 30 min). It goes down to saving the Pontils rocks north-east and once the forest must be directed in a southerly direction towards the cemetery. The visit to Pontils (10.16 km, 550 m) and again taking first the road T-201 heading north towards Santa Coloma de Queralt turn left, towards the west, the paved above. Once Biure finally climb the castle (653 m).
