The City Council allocates € 1.4 M to families and businesses in the municipality

Salou businesses will benefit from the aid

Salou. Costa Dorada. 22 March 2021.
The Salou City Council has already released the new package of measures that it has prepared to directly help families and companies in the municipality in the face of the economic crisis due to the pandemic. As a whole, almost 1.4 million euros in addition to the almost 8 million euros in aid already allocated by the consistory in 2020.

In direct aid to families, the City Council will dedicate a total of 280,000 euros, among which will go to housing (150,000 euros), employment (100,000 euros) and aid to families for school supplies (30,000 euros). These amounts come from the treasury remnants, which the Salou City Council can dedicate directly to helping its neighbors due to the suspension of the fiscal rules in 2020 and 2021, which allows the City Council to freely dispose of its remnants, as claimed by the administration salouense.

The rest of the measures focus on the reduction of various fees to businesses and companies in the municipality to lighten the tax burden of the economic fabric of Salou in these times of greatest difficulties due to the pandemic.

The tax reductions are as follows:
  • The commercial waste collection rate will have a reduction of 20%
  • The fees for opening businesses and establishments will have a 100% reduction
  • The occupancy rate of the public road -tables and chairs- will have a reduction of 40%
  • The temporary and punctual public road occupancy rate will have a reduction of 25%
  • The street market occupancy rate of the weekly market will have a reduction of 25%
  • The occupancy rate and provision of the beach service will have a reduction of 25%
  • The hotel parking reservation (50% is already done ex officio) will have a reduction of 25%
  • The reservation of taxi parking (it will be made two years in a row) will have a drop of 22%
  • The periodic administrative concessions will have a minimum reduction of 20%, as a whole
  • The municipal market rate will have a reduction of 20%
In total, these reductions add up to 1.1 million euros, which will remain in the pockets of businessmen and merchants in Salou to face the current economic crisis. This set of measures will be approved in the municipal plenary session in April 2021.

The mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, and the councilor for Finance and Economic Management, Yeray Moreno, have presented these measures "with the primary objective of working for the well-being of people and that the social and business fabric of our municipality feels strongly supported and able to move forward, facing the crisis caused by the pandemic ", in the words of the mayor. For his part, the Councilor for Finance explained that "the good management of municipal resources will allow us to offer more direct aid in the immediate future".
