,La Caixa, and Tarragona restore the forest and recover the garden of Mas Forès

Tarragona. Costa Dorada. Obra Social "la Caixa" il'organisme autonomous local development of Tarragona have launched a project to restore forest and processing purposes agroecològiques to the estate of Mas de Forès. The property, located in Valley River Gazebo is located in the municipality of Alcover, 4 kilometers from town, within an area PEIN (Plan for Areas of Natural Interest.) With an area exceeding 100 hectares, has great natural and scenic value and is a natural gateway to access the Prades Mountains. Owned by the City Council since 2001, this large wooded property has been listed by the Government in the Catalogue of Public Forests. The space has a more fitted where still an oil mill and wine cellar. At the entrance of the property there is a set of 3 mills "mills Tarrant", three industrial buildings from the late nineteenth century out of service today. The project of the Work of "la Caixa" and of Tarragona, which carried out workers GINAC Foundation has two objectives: to train work-disabled and mental disorder and restore a space (and in some forest agricultural part) which allows to start new economic activities like farming, environmental education and ecotourism. This is a project that may have therefore a multiplier effect in the territory, promoting tourism and organic farming in the area, and encouraging potential stakeholders to maintain economic activity in rural areas of the interior . The main pillars of the action takes place, then, the care of people at risk of exclusion, present and future generation of productive activity in emerging industries and the structuring of the territory. The project will be conducted in two phases. During the first six months are planned activities such as cleaning and restoration of areas of garden, forest and river, cleaning, esbrossat and installation of irrigation in areas intended for agricultural production, the removal of dead trees and branches close to roads or areas frequented suitability of the environment and access to areas of interest. Other actions include: • The restoration of the old colonial garden, preserving the natural heritage that is the garden of the Mas Forès and encouraging wildlife. Also clean the pipes and listed plant species. • The strengthening of indigenous forest and riparian forest, to the detriment of the species Reinoso, favoring the expansion in agricultural land and the eradication of alien invasive species such as Ailanto il'acàcia. The river areas are areas particularly sensitive to environmental impacts that often suffer, including the expansion of exotic species. These affect the conservation status of rivers, streams and rivers, causing a decrease in water quality, the flora and fauna and landscape quality. To preserve this space will be works by removing species and dead trees and the clearing of bushes. During the second phase of the project is expected to: • The opening, classification and marking of nature trails. • The recovery of agricultural use, restaurant, flat areas to allocate them to organic farming and provide habitat for fauna and crops. It also wants to create a garden for teaching purposes and to promote environmental education and restore old varieties of fruit trees in the area.
