Salou. Costa Dorada. 21 October 2026. The Teatre Auditori de Salou (TAS) will host the conference 'Senior Tourism: Opportunities and trends in an expanding market' on November 6 at 9:30 am. The event will analyze the economic impact of this traveler segment, which is key to reducing seasonality in the sector thanks to its flexibility to travel outside the high season.
The event is organized by the Más Sénior Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and the Salou City Council. Other notable participants include the Mayor of Salou and President of the Municipal Tourism Board, Pere Granados, and the Honorary President of the Más Sénior Foundation, José Luis Bonet.
A growing economic engine
'Silver Economy' tourism (people over 60) is gaining decisive weight in the economy. According to the 2025 Cetelem Observatory, 74% of this demographic consumes tourism services, and their spending is 13% higher than the Spanish average. Furthermore, data from CaixaBank Research indicates that people over 65 already account for 15.6% of total tourism spending in Spain, a percentage that rises to 16.4% for domestic tourism. This high purchasing power and year-round availability to travel represent a major opportunity to keep commerce, restaurants, and the hospitality industry active beyond the summer.
A conference to analyze and understand the market
During the conference, various panel discussions and presentations will address how destinations can adapt to these travelers, who prioritize safety, quality, accessibility, and cultural and gastronomic experiences. Guest experts will include sociologist Juan Carlos Alcaide, who will present the 'Periscopio Turismo Sénior', a study analyzing the trends of this market. Additionally, former basketball player and President of the Expert Committee on Culture, Tourism, and Sports for the newspaper 65YMÁS, Fernando Romay, will give the presentation 'The new senior tourist'.
Salou's commitment
For the capital of the Costa Daurada, this gathering is an opportunity to consolidate its diversification strategy. Salou seeks to capitalize on its extensive tourism infrastructure and attractions—such as the Coastal Path, the route of the 43 viewpoints, its gastronomy, and sports facilities—to attract visitors 365 days a year and generate more stable employment.
