Salou displays various activities for Christmas, especially aimed at families, and the first of them is always the lighting of the lights that decorate the main shopping streets of the capital of the Costa Dorada and the old town. This 2021 the official lighting of Christmas lighting has had various performances specially designed for the little ones.
The nerve center of Christmas lighting in Salou is the intersection of Calle Barcelona with Via Roma. In the roundabout at this point, a 10-meter high conical Christmas tree is installed each year, with a star at the top. Every afternoon, starting at 7, you can enjoy a show of lights and colors, as the tree incorporates a flash-type animation with sequential repetition of different color ranges, figures and videos.
The Christmas lights in Salou also decorate the streets of Barcelona, Via Roma, Mercado Municipal, Ciutat de Reus, Via Augusta, Berenguer de Palou, Plaza Carrilet, Plaza Sant Jordi and Plaza Europa. Christmas lights have also been placed in the old town, specifically in Valencia, Ponent and Iglesia streets.
The ornamental Christmas lighting motifs are made with 100% recycled material: motifs made of light aluminum, 100% recyclable, of the highest quality, avoiding the maximum of welding and respectful with the environment. It should be said that all lighting is LED. Apart from the rental lights, those that are owned by the City Council have also been placed.
But the setting of Salou does not end with the lighting. Various streets and public spaces are also decorated with Christmas decorations and figures. This 2021, as a novelty, the decoration of the old town has been done with the collaboration of the students of the Artistic Plastic Baccalaureate of the Institut Jaume I.
In addition, some 30 life-size decorative figures have been placed, made with elements of polyester, resin and reinforced with fiberglass, which can be enjoyed in the Bonet square, Sant Jordi square, in the square next to the Municipal Market, Via Augusta, c / Berenguer de Palou, Old Town, Plaza Onze de Setembre, Plaza Carrilet and c / Barcelona.

The official lighting of the Christmas lights was in charge of the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, who was accompanied by the councilor for Economic Dynamization, Hèctor Maiquez, and the representatives of the main merchants and business associations of Salou: the president of the Associació Shopping Salou Comerciants i Empresaris, Juli Vilaplana; the president of the Business Association of the Tourist Zone of Salou, Elaine McParland; the president of the Association of Hospitality Entrepreneurs (AEH) of Salou, Pep Moreno; and the president of the Association of Restoration and Nightlife of Salou, Eduardo Abenójar.
The mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, has highlighted that "the Christmas lights give a more welcoming, cheerful and festive air to the streets of the municipality, something that helps us to boost commerce at this time of year." For his part, the councilor has encouraged the population to buy in local shops in Salou especially at this time of year.
Apart from the act of the official lighting of the Christmas lights itself, various shows have been offered such as Christmas carols, performed by the Cor Encantats, the Cor Infantil and the Cor Mitjà of the Municipal School of Music of Salou; the show 'The Magic of Christmas Show'; followed by the performance of the characters from PortAventura World. Also present were Rocky and Confetina, the mascots of the Xic'S Club; and, finally, there was a chocolate for the large audience.
