The information plate has been installed at the entrance to the city

Salou. Costa Dorada. 06 September 2018. The mayors of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez, and Pere Granados, from Salou, unveiled a commemorative plaque that "certifies" the twinning of the two municipalities and which has been installed at the entrance of the capital of the Costa Daurada. The roundabout that connects Camí de Cavet and Carrer Ciutat de Reus is the place chosen to show the panel with the name of the two cities, showing this "friendship". If last Wednesday the event took place in the Mallorcan lands, today, the event culminated in Salou with the discovery of this plaque and the subsequent parliament in the patio of the Torre Vella de Salou. The twinning with Calvià is the first one to make the capital of the Costa Daurada.

Precisely, in the center of Art of the Old Tower the delegation has been transferred to close the symbolic twinning ceremony; which has taken place in front of the respective delegations of Salou and Calvià, with municipal representatives and presidents of the nautical clubs of Salou and Santa Ponça, among other citizens and entities. Thus, with the signing of a document that certifies the event at the hands of the two mayors, Pere Granados, and Alfonso Rodríguez is sealed this alliance between the two cities. It must be remembered that the two municipalities compare historical ties, affinities and interests in common, similar characteristics and the common organization of a nautical activity. Granados, stressed in his speech that "with this gesture we want to strengthen the ties between the two municipalities with common interests and objectives; as well as similar needs and problems, given our similar tourist activity. "" This contact makes possible a collaboration between municipal authorities aimed at management goals and projects, or activities of all kinds; but that would not make any sense if the effective rapprochement between the societies of each one of the peoples was not driven, "added the mayor.

For his part, Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez, highlighted the great historical relationship between the two municipalities, and the desire to continue working and growing as twinned municipalities.

Specifically, such a day as today, on September 5, 1229 coincides with the departure of King Jaime I to Mallorca. In this sense, the mayor wanted to recognize the two organizing entities of the regatta, his record in this initiative of a cultural and sporting nature. Remember that since 1987, the Regata Rei in Jaume has been celebrated, co-organized by the yacht clubs of both towns (Club Náutico de Salou and Club Náutico de Santa Ponça). A regatta that revives the passage of the ships of the conquering king.
