The plenary will debate a motion urging the State to make railway projects a reality

Salou. Costa Dorada. 07 April 2018. The municipal plenary next Monday, April 9, will debate and vote on a motion to be presented by the parties that make up the government of Salou, urging the State to fulfill its promises related to rail infrastructures. The motion intends to make the Mediterranean Corridor platform project as soon as possible, not only with regard to the municipality of Salouen, but also to the promised Central Station of the airport.

The Government of the State approved the project in 2004, which envisaged the construction of the new Salou-PortAventura station, the branch with double gauge from this station to the line that connects with the central axis of the Corridor; besides claiming the "immediate dismantling" of the railway infrastructure that crosses the urban nucleus of Salou, as also foresees the general project of the Corridor through the "resolution of environmental impact" that accompanies it.

In this regard the mayor, Pere Granados, said that "the elimination of roads in the urban area, once the line of the Corridor, is a historical claim for maintenance would have to sustain an undeveloped space that would continue to divide the core urban area of ​​Salou with negative effects for urban structuring and internal mobility ". In addition, it clarified, "it would cause not being able to develop the Civic Axis project in the space that would be liberated from the tracks, where it is planned to build a large avenue that would generate new pedestrian zones, public services and socio-economic dynamism".

The mayor also added that the connectivity and mobility of Salou with the railway network is fully guaranteed by users "with the current line from Salou to Tarragona, in the direction of Barcelona, ​​and with the connection of Salou with the branch that goes from Tarragona in the Corridor network ". He also clarified that "there are already other alternatives on the table regarding the maintenance, improvement, and adaptation of the service to the mobility needs of present and future of Salou and its tourist activity".

The motion, therefore, in addition to denouncing the "repeated failure" of the government of the State in many projects of the Corridor in Salou (new station Salou-PortAventura, branch station-Corridor and dismantling of railway facilities), also mentions the breach in construction from the Central station at the airport, which, according to the mayor, "would give value to the airport itself and would provide a close and shared service in the main locations."

For his part, the Councilor for Finance and socialist spokesman, Antoni Brull, points out that, among other things, the government has approved the full urging the State Government "to urgently tender the works of the aforementioned railway projects (including the Central station of the airport), and in the urgent drafting of the project of dismantling the current railway line of Hospitalet and Vandellós in Salou, with establishment of the corresponding budgetary plans with schedules and deadlines for execution ". The motion also urges the deputies of the Congress and senators "who represent the demarcation and, therefore, the interests of the territory, who do not vote in favor of some General State Budgets that do not contemplate necessary items to develop the railway projects of the Mediterranean Corridor.
