Mayors of tourist municipalities expose the minister their concerns

The eight mayors of the AMT met in Madrid

Salou. Costa Dorada. 23 January 2019.
Pere Granados, Mayor of Salou, has participated in a meeting that the Alliance of Tourist Municipalities (AMT) has held with Minister Reyes Maroto, Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism. The meeting was held in Madrid and Granados has demanded that the figure of the "tourist municipality" be recognized and that this "specialty" be considered when granting financing taking into account the holiday population. In the same act, the AMT has been presented to the media. During the presentation, in which the eight mayors of the municipalities that form this grouping of the main sun and beach tourist destinations of Spain (Mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, the mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, were present) the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, the mayor of Lloret, Jaume Dulsat, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados and the mayor of Torremolinos, José Ortiz) and the president of ITH, Juan Molas; the president and the vice president of the entity, the mayors of San Bartolomé de Tijarana and Benidorm respectively, explained that this entity "represents the strength of the sun and beach segment of the State, taking into account that its total sum more than 65 million overnight stays, assuming more than 20% of the total of the country ". They added that "in addition to its contribution to the national GDP and the maintenance of jobs, its action is based on the principle of collaboration with the sector and cooperation with other administrations to move towards the implementation of financing systems that allow the reconversion and the excellence of the destinations ".
In this sense, the mayor of Salou has expressed himself at the meeting held by the 8 mayors with Minister Reyes Maroto. Granados has claimed a recognition, status and specific treatment for the figure of the "tourist municipality", so that it can have a new financing system contemplating the seasonal population "because the tourist destinations must support an oversizing of their services to respond to the needs of the tourist population. "
The mayor remarked that "a new financing would allow us to promote renewal plans and modernization of the destination, and implement better and greater services, while developing smart destinations and increase their quality, for greater visitor satisfaction".
