End of the season of beaches in the second year without fatalities

Image of one of the drills that took place in 2018

Salou. Costa Dorada. 19 October 2018. The Department of Local Police and Civil Protection of Salou has valued very positively the season of beaches that has concluded these days, especially for being the second year in which no fatalities have been recorded. This fact has led the councilman of the area, David Gonzalez, to say that "we can say that it has been a very good season". Gonzalez, added that "the drills that have been carried out throughout the summer have shown the great work of all the professionals involved in the surveillance, protection, and attention of the beaches, which year after year we work to offer a better service to our bathers ".

Regarding the services offered on the beaches of the municipality, this season we have had 52.72% of the hours dedicated to rescue services on beaches with green flag, 42.17% of the hours dedicated to rescue services the beaches with yellow flag, and 5.10% of the hours destined to the rescue services on the beaches with red flag. Thus, during the season more than 1200 people have been treated for cures, cuts, or minor incidents. As for the use of amphibious chairs, they were used 158 times, and their use was mainly by people of Spanish nationality with 95 times, followed by people of foreign nationality who have used them 63 times.

Remember that during the summer several simulation exercises have been carried out that have been satisfactory. These are internal drills on the beaches of the municipality to continuously improve services on the beaches and to offer a better service to users, which involves Salvation and Lifeguard personnel (Servitur Salvamento SL), the Local Police, and the SEM ( they only intervene in cases that present a greater complication).

During the simulations, many factors are put into practice, such as effectiveness in a first intervention, effectiveness in the detection of people, and effectiveness in the activation of services. Other drills are carried out throughout the year in other cases, such as the descent of the ravine, the breakage of emissaries, different rescues outside the beaches, such as on the way round, etc.

Note that these simulations include different municipal councils such as Tourism with the actions that must be carried out within the project of the Standard "Q of the ICTE" for Levante and Poniente. The regulations require a simulation in relation to safety and rescue and first aid at least once a year. Since it is a certification of quality of services on the beaches and is implemented in the main beaches of Levante and Poniente.

Another of the councils that also contemplates this drill in its management of the environmental system ISO14.001: 2015 implemented in all the beaches and bays of Salou, and the blue flag badge certifies that Levante beach has passed the exams carried out by these organisms based on four criteria: quality of bathing waters, information and environmental education, environmental management and security, services and facilities is the environment.
