Called volunteers to clean invasive plants at Long Beach

Salou. Costa Dorada. 07 September 2018. On September 16, a new day of environmental volunteering in Salou will be held on Playa Larga, which will consist of the cleaning of exotic invasive plants. The activity is organized by the City Council, the Association for the Conservation of Natural Ecosystems and the Decathlon firm.

The day, which begins at 10 and ends at 2 pm, will focus mainly on the location and withdrawal of balm (Carpobrotus). This volunteer day and with previous inscription aims to improve the natural habitat of this coastal area of ​​the municipality with an ecosystem of exceptional ecological and landscape value.

Coastal habitats become especially sensitive to human alterations and especially to invasive alien species. Among these, highlight the balm, also called cat's nail bath or dandelion. There are two species, Carpobrotus edulis (yellow flowers) and Carpobrotus acinaciformis (pink flowers), sometimes hybridized. This is a plant from South Africa cataloged among the 100 most harmful alien invasive species in Europe because it forms very dense carpets that make native species disappear.

The activity will feature a free picnic for attendees and is suitable for all ages and people with reduced mobility. Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
