In November, Gastronomic Days of Squid in the restaurants of Salou

The squid, protagonist of the Gastronomic Days of Salou

November is a special month in the gastronomic calendar of Salou because the great protagonist in the kitchens of the main restaurants of the capital of the Costa Dorada is squid. In 2021, 13 restaurants participate in the Squid Gastronomic Days that will be held from November 19 to 27, coinciding with the traditional Squid Festival, a fishing contest for this cephalopod that is now in its 46th edition.

The Salou restaurants that participate in the Squid Gastronomic Days are:

  • Restaurant El Galeon (c / Valls, 8)
  • O Mar Restaurant (Av. Carles Buïgas, 29)
  • Restaurant Castillo de Javier (Av. Carles Buïgas, 29)
  • Restaurant Cook and Travel (c / Llevant, 5)
  • Restaurant Deliranto (c / Llevant, 7), with 1 Michelin star
  • Malapecora Restaurant (Via Augusta, 14)
  • Asador Córcega Restaurant (c / Major, 31)
  • Restaurant D'Albert (Espigó del Moll, s / n)
  • Casa Soler (Av. De la Diputació, 197)
  • 4R Casablanca (passeig Miramar, 12);
  • Bufacaldos (passeig Miramar, 40)
All of them add to their menus a menu with dishes based on squid, with prices ranging from 20 to 120 euros, washed down with Segura Viudas wines and cavas, which sponsors the Conference.

As a novelty this 2021, the program of the Salou Squid Days includes recipes prepared by the chefs of the participating establishments, so that they can also be prepared from home. Some examples of recipes are squid creamy rice, squid over piperada, squid romesquet, broad beans with squid or squid in sauce, among others (see the attached pdf).

The Squid Gastronomic Days are an initiative of the Associació d’Empresaris d’Hostaleria (AEH) of Salou, which has the support of the City Council. In the presentation of the Conference, the president of the Association, chef Pep Moreno, highlighted that the quality of local products and commented that "the province of Tarragona has the highest concentration in Europe of appellations of origin of wine and the highest concentration in Europe of Denominations of Origin of product and Protected Geographical Indications, of high quality ”. In addition, he thanked the restaurants for participating in the Squid Gastronomic Days.

For his part, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, has praised the role of the municipality's restaurant sector, and has expressed his “conviction that the celebration of the Squid Days will once again be a success, thanks to the involvement, to the good work and the great work of the restorers ".

The Councilor for Economic Dynamization, Hèctor Maíquez, has expressed his satisfaction at being able to resume the conference, adding that “it is fantastic to be able to enjoy this event again, which combines the powerful gastronomic offer of Salou, with a deeply rooted tradition such as the Fiesta of the Squid ”.

Finally, the On Trade Area Manager of Segura Viudas, Miquel de Julián, explained from the company “we make available to the restaurants participating in the Squid Days the entire range of wines and cavas from our winery, so that they can pair, as they deem more convenient, their dishes ".
