The campaign to collect used household oil reaches Tarragonès

Tarragona. Costa Dorada. Unit Environment, Public Health and Municipal Assistance Service Territory of the Province of Tarragona is a continuation of the campaign begun in 2010 "Your oil moves us!" To implement the selective collection of used oil to domestic municipalities of Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre. This October, the campaign has reached the towns of fewer than 100,000 inhabitants of the region of Tarragona in order to help reduce the pollution of soil water and increase the environmental awareness of citizens regarding the use of polluting waste such as used oil home. Through this initiative, the inter-institution offers the means to achieve the implementation of selective collection of household used oil. In this sense, provides free containers and funnels for the collection of this waste and delivers all the necessary material for the dissemination of the campaign. The Council has already started this campaign in 2010 in Alt Camp, Lower Field, Conca de Barbera and Priorat, and expects to reach the other towns of less than 100,000 inhabitants of the area in a third and fourth phase. The domestic oil used is a major cause of pollution of urban waste water, mainly due to bad habits, the lack of recycling and the bad habit of pouring it into the sink, the toilet or throw it the garbage. The effects of dumping this waste are: - Problems, jams and bad smells in the pipes. - Even more difficult and the treatment of wastewater. - Contaminates the inland basins, and aquifers and the sea adversely affect natural ecosystems. Separate collection of this waste is an initiative that brings environmental benefits as very important, firstly, reduce pollution at the source of soil water, and the other, minimizing the impact on climate change reducing emissions of greenhouse gases through the recovery of this waste as a biofuel.
