Salou. Costa Dorada. 25 August 2025.
Salou, a natural port of the Mediterranean on the Costa Dorada, has remembered its seafaring past thanks to the exhibition that the Salvavides de Calafell Bot has made on Ponent Beach. The Lifeboat is an insubmersible boat that recalls those that, at the beginning of the 20th century, were dedicated to saving sailors from shipwrecks, thanks to the peculiarity of its construction.
The municipality of Calafell had a boat of this type that, today, the Calafell Lifeboat Association has recovered and makes exhibitions to preserve the maritime memory of the Catalan coast.
Prior to the exhibition, those responsible for the entity have delivered an institutional gift to the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, and the Councilor for Culture, Júlia Gómez, consisting of some paintings that reproduce the lifeboat, painted by one of the members of the entity.
The exhibition on the beach has aroused the curiosity of the bathers, who have been able to see how the vogadors del bot have turned it up to 8 times, initially, and up to 15 times in the second part, without the boat sinking at any time.
Due to its historical value, the association aspires to have the Lifeboat recognized as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, a distinction that would guarantee its preservation and dissemination for future generations.
The mayor of Salou, who has sailed on the boat with the vogadors, stressed that the Salvavides Bot has made an exhibition in Salou, Capital of Catalan Culture 2025, since "it reminds us of the fishing tradition and the importance of our port, one of the most outstanding in Catalonia."
