Salou has a pioneering project to integrate people with disabilities in the workplace




Salou. Costa Dorada. Access to the labor market is one of the main difficulties are the people with mental disabilities or a mental disorder. In order to overcome these obstacles, the OnadaFoundation, the Foundation PortAventura, Salou City Council have joined together to develop an educational project aimed at this group. The project's goal is twofold: on one hand wants to give students the tools to pursue a career in the world of gardening, and the other seeks to motivate students and enhance their personal autonomy and capacity social interaction. As a result, will receive specific training to operators of nurseries and gardens. This project is made possible by a three-way collaboration between the Onada Foundation (responsible for the implementation of the course), the city of Salou (to transfer the facilities and material), and the Foundation Portaventura (which provides funding for the project). The Foundation PortAventura is perfectly appropriate for this project with its two founding objectives: first to finance projects aimed at improving opportunities for children and young people at risk of social exclusion (whether for reasons of health and economic ) and the other rooted preference for projects in the region of Tarragona. "We want to leave a mark as a Foundation PortAventura and this is a great ally," said Ramon Marsal, president of the Foundation PortAventura. Project Description Since this group has special needs and need to track individual student, this project has become a group of 6 students. The course will consist of 660 hours, began on May 31 and end on 22 December 2011. The course combines theoretical aimed at adding more relational skills and knowledge of professionals, along with a practical part where the bulk of the training focuses on gardening. Meanwhile, Josep Gomis, president of Wave's Board of Trustees, thanked the involvement of all parties and stated that "changes occur in small everyday actions." Finally, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, said "We are very pleased to work together to be more human and caring and add synergy." Theoretical part: 1-Discover the world of work: rules of conduct, work and health, quality of work, rights and duties of employees, risk prevention, recycling and environment and teamwork. 2-Personal development: communication, social skills, nutrition, first aid. 3-Knowledge of the environment: council and institutions, our organization, human rights and tolerance, environmental education.
