Tarragona. Costa Dorada. Fundació Caixa Tarragona presents "Agustin Centelles. The concentration camp Bram, 1939" an exhibition that brings together a selection of 600 photographs taken by Augustine Centelles during his stay in the camp of Bram, from 1 March to 13 September 1939, as well as fragments his personal diary. These documents are one of the most outstanding contributions in the history of the Republican exile. Allow deeper into the life and work of one of the great photographers of the last century and at the same time are an exceptional historical testimony of everyday life in a concentration camp in France in 1939. "Augustin Centelles. The concentration camp Bram, 1939 "is a production of Ars Santa Monica Partnership with the support of the Fundació Caixa Tarragona Archive Centelles City Council of Perpignan. Photographs and personal documents The exhibition displays 58 prints made from original negatives that relate to the daily concentration camp Bram. The images are presented accompanied by snippets of newspaper staff Augustine Centelles that contextualize and add sentimental value. The show also includes three showcases where there are personal documents of the photographer. These are original pieces that help to understand the time and are evidence of that generation. You can see the personal correspondence in 1939, his private family photo album, vintage prints Positivado in 1939 by the same photographer at the shack built in the lab 62 / D, where the two books he wrote in his diary Centelles , or driving journalist Federation International des journalistes 1938. There are also pieces that belong al'Hemeroteca Caixa Tarragona: a copy of La Vanguardia (19 February 1939) which reported the flight of refugees into France, and several issues of the publication "Visions of War and rear" (1937) with photographs of himself Centelles Augustine. Complementing the exhibition is projected over a selection of 80 images taken from the Archives Centelles, extending the vision of daily life in the field of Bram. We have also provided a space for consultation with specific and specialized literature on Augustine Centelles. This exhibition gives a broad scope of experience in a concentration camp, as it is internal Centelles, writer and photographer at a time. There is a wide range of topics covered: the more uncomfortable aspects of everyday life in the field of refugee mental degradation or full submission to the French authorities, among others. Centelles, pioneer of modern photojournalism Centelles is one of the great pioneers of modern photojournalism and one of the protagonists, with artistic talent and journalism, has portrayed in recent history. His legacy becomes essential to know first hand the cultural memory. Belongs to a generation marked by mass media and the emergence of a new press in the interwar period, drive the need for graphic evidence capable of, and effective immediately, some certain political and social events. Additional activities at the exhibition Guided tours Fundació Caixa Tarragona has prepared, as always, free guided tours for the general public every Saturday at 19 noon. Guided tours on 24 April and 29 May there will be translation in sign language for deaf people.
