The tourist forecasts for the Costa Dorada this season are optimistic, although they will not surpass that of 2017

Representatives of the sector believe that it will be a good season

Salou. Costa Dorada. 23 June 2018. The Costa Dorada expects good results for this season, but without breaking any record, as the aggressive offers that are made in other destinations in the Mediterranean, such as Egypt or Tunisia, will decrease the number of visitors in 2018, according to the Federació Empresarial d 'Hostaleria i Turisme de Tarragona (FEHT). The president of the FEHT, Eduard Farriol, says that now is the time to see if they have done their homework well and have made the visitors repeat. "In recent years we have attracted borrowed tourism that could not go to other countries, now
It is time to see if during this period we have done our homework well and we have achieved the loyalty of our visitors ".

The sector rules out competing in prices and commitment to "quality and tourist attractions", as shown by the joint investment of 60 million euros to modernize hotels and services, which in recent years total an investment that exceeds 200 million. Farriol remarks that the Costa Dorada is a unique destination, by bringing together "PortAventura, leisure, culture, restoration, wine tourism, heritage of humanity ..."

Data from the Observatory of the Science and Technology Park of Tourism and Leisure of Catalonia indicate that, from January to May, overnight stays have grown by 5% over the same period of 2017. In this sense, the airport of Reus (Tarragona) expects to receive 1.05 million passengers, which is 3% more than last year. It should be borne in mind that thirteen companies operate in this airport that connect Reus with thirteen cities in eight countries, with Estonia as an outstanding novelty.

Precisely, one of the strategies of the FEHT is to open new markets in Eastern Europe such as Poland, Ukraine or Belarus and the Baltic countries such as Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia, in addition to strengthening the German market. Sport tourism is the new commitment and both Cambrils and Salou have the Sports Tourism certificate awarded by the Generalitat of Catalonia.

During Holy Week, they received more than 20,000 athletes and the Mediterranean Games - which will open tomorrow and close on July 1 - will help consolidate this new offer.
