Salou already has a canine unit to strengthen Local Police patrols

The presentation was made at the beach police station

Salou. Costa Dorada. 20 July 2018. The proximity patrol of the Local Police of Salou will count from today with a new "member", a trained dog that opens the Canine Unit of the municipality. The task of this unit will be to complement the work of the agents in front of incitement attitudes, support in the detection of drugs and to carry out awareness actions in the educational centers of Salou.

The presentation was made at the beach police station, in front of the mayor, Pere Granados, the Councilor for Security and Mobility, David González, the head of the Local Police of Salou, José Luis Gargallo, the responsible head of the Grupo de Relaciones Ciutadanas, Victor Molleda, as well as several agents trained with the degree that accredits them to work with these animals. This unit specializes in proximity patrolling, monitoring of municipal buildings and public spaces, and controlling attitudes contrary to the civic ordinance, one of which is the detection of narcotic substances, as well as in sessions training in schools and institutes of the municipality.

The unit, which is operational since June, has already participated in different operations successfully. In total, 4 Local Police officers have been trained, who are currently working with a cross-breeder of 2-year-old Belgian Shepherd.

The goal of the Local Police is to improve day by day looking for excellence, proof of this is the improvement of the rescue network, the acquisition of new bicycles for beach units, the renovation of part of the mobile park or the incorporation of the canine unit in the same local police. The unit will also have a social part with talks and demonstrations in schools and institutes.

The Councilor for Safety and Mobility, David González, explained that "this initiative must be highly valued since it is a project that has emerged from the agents that make up the Salouque staff, which until now has been giving good results ". Gonzalez, added that "we are pioneers in having a dog unit in the demarcation. No local police officer has a canine unit within its operations, a fact that we are very proud of, as the professionalism and worthiness of our local police continues to be a reference. "

Victor Molleda, Chief of Staff of the Local Police Citizen Relations Group, explained that "the dog, who is duly cared for by a specialized company and is assigned to the local police, is trained in such a way that he thinks he is playing. Thus when he detects a substance, he takes a passive position by sitting at the feet of the subject and waiting for his toy as a reward. "

During the presentation, there was a small display of the unit before the audience.
