The Popular Plant organized by Repsol and the Aurora Association will be next March 17 in Tarragona

The Repsol Foundation and the Aurora Association make it possible another year, the Popular Plant, an initiative of an environmental and social nature linked to the city of Tarragona. This 7th edition is carried out again on the right bank of the Francolí river (next to the Santa Tecla bridge). To confirm the participation, you must register through www.reforestatgn.org.

Fundación Repsol, together with the Aurora Association, is promoting another year, the Popular Plant on the Francolí River. This year, 2018, the seventh edition of the activity is celebrated that has the will to contribute to the reforestation of the surroundings of this river. This year, as a novelty, in addition to planting, maintenance tasks of the plantations of the last edition will also be carried out. The Plantada this year will be held on Saturday, March 17.

The Popular Plant is a family activity that has become a great party for the little ones, the great protagonists of the day. That is why participants can enjoy an initial show designed for children.

The plantation in figures

This proposal of an environmental nature began in 2012. Since then, more than 3,550 people, between adults and children, have participated in the activity. Throughout these first six editions, 4,800 plants have been planted, between trees and shrubs of 17 different species, and each year, the number of plants has been increasing. In 2012, 300 plants were planted; in 2013, a total of 500; In 2014, 750 plants were planted; In the years 2015 and 2016, 1,000 plants were planted each year; and in 2017 1,250 units were planted. In 2018, a total of 1,400 plants will be planted with 6 species belonging to the area.

It is estimated that more than 80% of the plants have survived, therefore, more than 3,800 plants are already part of the vegetation of the river. Thus, 7 hectares of the Francolí area have increased their vegetation thanks to the Popular Plantada.
