Salou will count for the next year with a budget of 47,021,500 euros and will allocate 5.8 million euros to municipal investments. In addition to the approval of the accounts, in the same plenary session, the City Council agrees to the adhesion of the city to the Association of Tourism Municipalities of Sun and Beach AMT, whose statutes have been approved.
The main characteristic of the new budget of the City Council is the maintenance of the containment in the ordinary expense, in compliance with the budget stability regulations, the spending rule, and taking into account the freezing of taxes and municipal taxes in the current fiscal year. . However, the sharp decrease in indebtedness and the increase in the participation of the municipalities in the tourist tax have allowed allocating a larger allocation for new service contracts, especially gardening and cleaning of municipal buildings. Regarding investments, the effort begun in 2016 continues, due to the completion of the economic-financial plan, and the execution of the four-year plan in accordance with budgeted forecasts in each annuity.
The municipal investments will be broken down into 2,732,500 euros for works on the streets; 841,000 euros for investments in tourism infrastructure; 2,050,000 euros more for the creation and readaptation of new municipal facilities; and other items such as 100,000 euros for investments in information technology; 20,000 euros for sports; 30,000 for the municipal brigade or 30,000 more for the Local Police.
Regarding the evolution of the debt and the tax pressure the councilor of Economic Management has highlighted how since 2012 the level of indebtedness has suffered a progressive decline, maintaining the investment in about 4 million euros per year; reducing the fiscal pressure year after year and providing the same services. Mayor Pere Granados, once made the budget statement wanted to thank the effort of Councilor Toni Brull -which has presented this last budget- for its excellent management as well as its economic team and council councils for collaboration to when setting the budget items. The mayor said that "this budget that has been approved is good for Salou and guarantees the services and improvement of the municipality." The budget has received the favorable votes of the 12 councilors of the government (CiU and PSC) and the contrary votes of the 9 councilors of the opposition Citizens, PP, ERC and Gs.
Works on the streets
In the plenary session of today, the project of ordinary works of arrangement of the sidewalks that are included in the triangle of streets between the highway from Reus to Salou and the Pere Molas avenue with the vertex in the Plaza Europa has also been approved. These are the streets Terrer, Louis Braille, Burguera, Pujol de Barberà, Josep Vicenç Foix, Dra. Helena Maseras and the north sidewalk of Birmingham Street with an investment of 1,179,000 euros. In this set of streets the paving of sidewalks, the installation of drinking water, as well as gardening and irrigation works will be carried out. The works will start past holidays. The project has been approved by the 12 votes of the CiU and PSC government, the abstention of Citizens and the opposing votes of ERC 2, PP 2 and that of Guanyem Salou.
Wednesday's plenary session has definitively approved the project and then passes to the contracting services to award it and that the works begin in the first quarter of 2019 and will last a maximum of 5 months.
