Montagut

El Montmell
Montagut

Short hike to visit the shrine of St. Jaume and the summit of Montagut, of 964 m, located on the western side of the Sierra Ancosa a place nice and pleasant. Good view over the High Sierra Camp and the next Montmell. To do this route you should go at the foot of the C-37 (between the town and the bridge Armentera Esblada core in the basin of Gaia), in the extreme northwest of the High Camp. Carol needed to go for a paved path leading to Pontons which partly coincides with a PR trail, marked with white signs and yellow, which continues up to the neck of Montagut (3.7 km, 841 m) which leaves the vehicle. At this point, take the turnoff on the left leading to Santiago de Montagut. After 0.8 km (0 h 12 min), is a crossroads signposted. Follow the road right-of-ceremonies, in very short time, leads to the Romanesque hermitage of Sant Jaume de Montagut (0.9 km, 862 m). Then the trail continues beside the chapel towards the forest. At 150 meters left the track turning right up a forest path. In 30 minutes you are in a good observation point of the Serra of Montmell. We only need 50 meters to reach the top of the hill. In a couple of minutes you are in Montagut, peak of 964 m and end of the route (1.45 km). There is a good view over the surrounding mountains and the Montmell. The return is the same way.
