Salou's coastline proudly displays the awards that recognise the excellence and outstanding condition of its beaches. A total of nine beaches and coves continue to hold the UNE-EN ISO 14001:2015 certification, which confirms rigorous environmental management. In addition, the flag-raising ceremony at Llevant and Ponent beaches highlights compliance with safety protocols, water quality standards and preparedness for potential health-related incidents.
Salou is a pioneering municipality in quality audits and, in 2026, has taken another step forward in accessibility with the introduction of a flag for people with colour vision deficiency (colour blindness). This new initiative features adapted signage to help visitors who have difficulty distinguishing colours. The measure reinforces the municipality's commitment to inclusive and accessible beaches for everyone. Mayor Pere Granados stated that “they are the result of constant and rigorous work carried out throughout the year to keep Salou's beaches at the highest standards of quality, sustainability, safety and accessibility.”
The City Council is already working on adapting to the new ISO 14001 environmental standard, which is scheduled to come into force in 2027. Annual external audits and international certifications continue to guarantee the quality, sustainability, safety and accessibility of Salou's coastline, strengthening its position as one of the Mediterranean's leading beach destinations.
