Salou. Costa Dorada. 26 September 2025.
The mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, has inaugurated in the Espigó del Moll the "Banc per Europa", a bank that has been painted with the colors of the flag of the European Union. The bank is the symbol of the entry of the municipality into the network of cities that actively defend European values, especially among young people. It is the first "Bank for Europe" opened in the province of Tarragona and the third in Catalonia. The event was also attended by the Councilor for Participation, Julia Gómez, and that of Joventud, Noelia Izquierdo.
It is an initiative promoted by the European Federalist Youth (JEF Catalunya), an apolitical and separatist entity that has among its values the cooperation and integration of European countries, with a view to a more federal, feminist and egalitarian Europe.
The mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, stressed that this bank "symbolizes a space for reflection and exchange between citizens. Europe is a great opportunity for people, and this symbol reinforces our desire to build a more equal, integrated and cohesive society. We are committed to this bank and to collaborating with the JEF; we need young people like them, committed to the future of Europe”.
For his part, the president of Tarragona of JEF Catalonia, Max Figuerola, stressed that “this bank is much more than a space to sit down: it is a pedagogical tool and a reminder that Europe is built every day, between all and all”.
With this initiative, Salou receives the seal of "European City", which symbolizes the commitment of the municipality to the values of the Union and becomes a stimulus so that neighbors have a better knowledge of the European reality and its dimension. Its implementation, promoted by JEF Catalonia through its European federation, opens the door to a transnational network that facilitates sharing experiences with other European municipalities.
