Campaign 'Let's clean up Europe' to raise awareness among salouenses about cleaning and discharges in the municipality

Salou. Costa Dorada. 09 May 2018. Salou has joined the campaign "Let's Clean up Europe", which aims to raise awareness among citizens of 27 regions of Europe about discharges, garbage and customs related to the cleanliness of the municipality. To do this, the Department of Environment of the City of Salou has organized activities aimed at carrying out the change of unhealthy habits from 11 to 13 May.

Citizens can participate, voluntarily, in different actions to clean natural spaces, such as forests, beaches, rivers or streams. The European Commission encourages actions to sensitize people about the scope of the problem of uncontrolled dumping and promote changes in the habits and behavior of citizens.

Within this framework, the council has scheduled a cleanup day next Saturday, May 12 throughout the morning, from 10 am to 1 pm. The activity, aimed at all audiences, will focus on cleaning the space of Cala Font and the surroundings close to the church of Sant Jordi, where the only town in Catalonia of the annual plant "Silene ramossisima" is located, in danger of extinction.

The councilor of the area, Julia Gómez, stressed that "these actions respond to environmental problems caused by uncontrolled dumping in natural areas, avoid possible contamination, and restore the habitat and landscape." Gómez added that "beyond this fact, the action is a good opportunity to see the effect of the antisocial behaviors".

It is recommended that whoever wants to participate, wear comfortable shoes, hat, sunscreen, water and lunch. The organization will provide protective gloves to perform the cleaning tasks.
