Outdoor sculpture exhibition on Paseo Jaume I

One of the guardians of the dreams of the sculptor Martí Rom

Salou. Costa Dorada. 24 July 2021.
Until September 30, residents and visitors of Salou can enjoy the sculpture exhibition that they will find strolling along the first section of Paseo Jaume I. It is a set of works by the painter and sculptor Martí Rom. With the title "From the mythology of dreams to everyday reality" the sculptor investigates trying to steal what cannot be stolen, such as dreams.
The works are located in the first section of Paseo Jaume I, more or less in front of the Tourist Board and up to where it is interrupted by the access to the parking lot between the promenade and the beach. In this section, 11 works made with welded iron pieces are distributed while another 4 can be visited in the Torre Vella.
At the opening of the exhibition, Martí Rom stated that he is very excited to start this cycle promoted by the Salou City Council to bring art to the street, and believes that anyone walking along the Paseo Jaume I will find the works and he will ask questions about them, and this part "is the one that interests me the most", said the artist.
The warriors of dreams referred to in the title of the exhibition are pieces that are part of a mythology that he has constructed from readings of Greek mythology. They represent guardians of nocturnal dreams in front of the scavenger bird also represented in a sculpture that tries to steal those dreams.
For his part, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, explained that by taking art to the street, the City Council wants to facilitate access to artistic manifestations for everyone, since residents and visitors do not have to go expressly to a gallery or an exhibition hall to contemplate artistic works, because in Salou you can already find them in such an emblematic and crowded space as Paseo Jaume I.
The mayor explained that sculpture is, in this sense, the artistic manifestation that best fits the urban space of Salou, and has highlighted the will of the City Council to enrich the tourist offer of the capital of the Costa Dorada by promoting cultural action in the town.
Martí Rom is a renowned Barcelona artist who spends time in Mont-roig del Camp, a town near Salou. An industrial engineer by profession, he has made documentaries and films in super 8 and has cultivated painting but especially sculpture. He has held hundreds of exhibitions in Spain and Europe and has won sculpture awards in Switzerland, France and Barcelona.
As a cultural activist, he is president of the Associació per la pedra seca i l ’traditional architecture, president of the Center Miró de Montr-roig del Camp; he promoted the centenary of Miró to Mont-roig del Camp, and promoter of the route “El paisatge dels genis”: Pau Casals i El Vendrell, Antoni Gaudí i Reus, Joan Miró i Mont-roig, Pablo Picasso and Horta de Sant Joan .
